Would you like to volunteer in Primary Schools?
E4E are delighted to highlight the work of Primary Futures, who run the “Our Future Derby” project. This targets 37 primary schools in 7 of the most disadvantaged wards in Derby (Abbey, Arboretum, Boulton, Chaddesden, Derwent, Normanton & Sinfin) and seeks to broaden the horizons of all primary age children within the specified schools as well as reducing stereotypical ideas around future careers and employment, through delivery of careers related learning.
E4E are proud to have supported careers work in all Derby City secondary schools for the last 6 years, and we invite volunteers old and new to join the team at Our Future Derby, to work in Primary Schools too.
Our Future Derby is funded by Derby Opportunity Area and is a collaboration between Education and Employers, Learn by Design and dmh associates. In year 1 of the project over 300 volunteers were engaged from 193 organisations and we are now seeking to grow this volunteer pool. Whilst specifically looking for volunteers in these growth sectors: Construction & Manufacturing, Health & Care, Information Technology, Art & Design, Energy & the Environment, Retail & Hospitality – including media and sports, we are keen to hear from all who have a few hours to offer.
The key objectives of Our Futures Derby:
- Raise the aspirations of all pupils including those on pupil premium, free school meals and from different ethnic backgrounds to close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
- Inspire Career Champions and Senior Leadership Team’s within the nominated primary schools to take a ‘whole school approach’ in embedding Career Related Learning now and in the future.
- Stimulate pupils by developing their understanding of the link between school and the wider world of work, broadening their awareness of the range of jobs and breaking down stereotypes and challenging bias.
